WARSAW This morning, we include a panoramic tour of Warsaw with a local guide. The city, with almost two million inhabitants and the political and economic center of Poland, presents itself as both classic and modern, traditional and cosmopolitan, reborn. We will stroll through the charming Old Town, with its historic buildings, the Royal Palace, and its cobblestone streets, all restored after their destruction during World War II and now declared a World Heritage Site. We will see the symbolic Palace of Culture, a skyscraper gifted by the Soviet Union, learn about what was the largest Jewish ghetto in Europe, and walk through Łazienkowski Park, where the Chopin Monument is located. Free afternoon, where you can visit its museums (the National Museum and the Warsaw Uprising Museum are particularly noteworthy) or stroll through its vibrant city center, full of commercial activity. Overnight stay. DAY 3. WARSAW – KIELCE – TARNOW – KRAKOW We will depart for the wooded hills of Lesser Poland, also known as Małopolska in Polish. We will visit KIELCE, a lively city founded in the 11th century with its elegant center centered around the cathedral, the episcopal palace, and its gardens. Time to explore the city and have lunch. We will continue our journey through Lesser Poland along small roads that allow us to better appreciate the towns and landscapes. In TARNOW, we will have time to explore this magnificent small city founded in the 14th century, with its large central square, medieval streets, and Renaissance and Gothic buildings with Polish, Jewish, and Hungarian influences. Before World War II, the Jewish population comprised about half of the city's inhabitants. Its ethnographic museum also reminds us of the Roma community, which was also exterminated in this European conflict. We will continue to Krakow, arriving in the late afternoon. We recommend a stroll through the always lively Main Market Square. Overnight stay. DAY 4. KRAKOW In the morning, we include a panoramic tour with a local guide of Krakow, the capital of Lesser Poland, founded in the 7th century, whose Old Town has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our tour will also include its beautiful medieval streets, the Main Market Square, one of the largest in Europe and the heart of the city, and Wawel Castle Hill, the former residence of Polish kings. Free afternoon. If you wish, you can take the optional excursion to the Wieliczka Salt Mine, also a World Heritage Site, with its carved galleries, underground churches, and 300 km of tunnels. At the end of the day, dinner of traditional cuisine is included. Overnight stay. DAY 5. KRAKOW – KALWARIA ZEBRZYDOWSKA – BARWALD DOLNY – WADOWICE – AUSCHWITZ – KATOWICE After breakfast, we will depart for KALWARIA ZEBRZYDOWSKA, a small town in a beautiful scenic setting, famous for its complex of monasteries and chapels known as "Calvary," a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is a place of pilgrimage. Afterward, we will make a short stop at the wooden church of Barwald Dolny before continuing to WADOWICE, known as the birthplace of Karol Wojtyla, Pope John Paul II. You will have the opportunity to visit the Pope John Paul II House Museum or the basilica where he was baptized. Time for a stroll and lunch. Then, we arrive at AUSCHWITZ, a Nazi concentration and extermination camp during World War II where more than a million people perished. Today it is a museum and memorial, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. We will visit Camp 2 - Birkenau, where trains arrived from all over Europe. We will continue towards Katowice and before arriving, we will visit the Nikiszowiec district, built for miners and their families at the beginning of the 20th century. This place is pending inclusion on the World Heritage List for its unique architecture and the way of life of its inhabitants. Once in Katowice, the capital of Silesia, free time to explore this modern city and important economic center. Overnight stay. DAY 6. KATOWICE – OPOLE – WRESLAW We will continue our route to Opole, where you will have time for a coffee in this lively little city with its well-preserved old town, known for the Polish National Song Festival. Leaving the city, we include admission to the Village Museum, an open-air museum showcasing life in rural Poland at the end of the 19th century and the region's wooden architecture, including its mills, church, and farmhouses. We continue to Wroclaw, a city founded in the 10th century and the capital of Lower Silesia, reflecting Polish, Czech, Austrian, and German influences. Its Old Town, rebuilt after World War II, boasts one of the most beautiful squares in Poland. The city is also known for its numerous bridges and canals. In the afternoon, we include a boat trip along its canals. Free time to explore the city. Overnight stay. DAY 7. Wroclaw – Poznań – Torun – Gdansk We travel to the Greater Poland region. We arrive in its capital, Poznań, one of the oldest cities in the country. Its old town is home to the impressive Market Square, where colorful Renaissance buildings flank the main building, the Town Hall, creating a vibrant and inviting atmosphere. At midday, in this square, to the sound of the clock, two mechanical goats compete, following an old 16th-century tradition. Time for lunch and a stroll. We will continue our journey to Torun, a walled Gothic city with a magnificent historic center declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the birthplace of Copernicus. If you wish, you can visit his house/museum. Afterward, we will travel to Gdansk, the former Danzig, arriving in the late afternoon. Its historic center is charming and full of life and activity. We suggest taking an evening stroll. Overnight stay. DAY 8. The monument to fallen workers is a prominent feature. Afterward, we will pass by the exterior of the Museum of the Second World War (the interior is closed on Mondays). Next, we will head to neighboring Sopot, an elegant seaside resort with a long beach on the Baltic Sea and a vibrant atmosphere.
