Planned Itinerary: DAY 1. CITY OF ORIGIN – SOFIA Transfer to the hotel and free time. You will receive information for the start of your tour. Around 3:00 PM (time may vary), we will include a visit to the capital of Bulgaria, visiting the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral (entrance included), the Russian Church, the mosque, and its squares and avenues with Stalinist architecture. Free time. Overnight stay. DAY 2. SOFIA – BACHKOVO – PLOVDIV We will depart in the morning for the BACHKOVO MONASTERY, the second oldest monastery in Bulgaria, founded in the 11th century, with its three churches and the life of its monks. We felt it as a place of profound peace. Continue to PLOVDIV, lunch included before beginning the tour of this city, one of the oldest in Europe. We include entrance fees to the Roman Amphitheater, the Old Pharmacy, and the Armenian House. Overnight stay. DAY 3. PLOVDIV – KAZANLAK – SHIPKA – ETARA – ARBANASSI – VELIKO TARNOVO Today's journey takes us through beautiful landscapes across the Balkan Mountains. In the Valley of Roses, we visit Kazanlak, where we include entrance to the replica of the Thracian Tomb (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and learn about the production of rose-derived products. Among the mountains, we stop at the Russian Church of Shipka, commemorating the Russo-Turkish War. We arrive in Etara, a charming village/ethnographic museum, where lunch is included. Afterward, we travel to Arbanassi, an old trading town with fortified houses, where we visit the Church of the Nativity (entrance included). We arrive in Veliko Tarnovo, the former capital of Bulgaria, with a picturesque medieval center nestled beside a gorge. Note: In some cases, the visit to Arbanassi may take place on Sunday morning. Overnight stay. DAY 4. VELIKO TARNOVO – BASARBOVO – BUCHAREST We travel towards Romania, stopping en route at the Dimitar Basarbovsky Monastery, a pilgrimage site carved into the rock. We cross the border over the Danube River. Arrival in Bucharest is around 1:00 PM, with time for lunch before beginning a panoramic city tour, including the Old Town and the imposing Palace of the Parliament. Free time. Dinner included. Overnight stay. DAY 5. BUCHAREST – SINAIA – BRAN – SIGHISOARA Today we enjoy a scenic journey towards Transylvania, crossing the Carpathian Mountains through forests and mountains. In Sinaia, we will stroll through the gardens of Peles and Pelisor Castles. We continue to the 14th-century Bran Fortress, known as Dracula's Castle (entrance included). Time for lunch. We continue to Sighisoara, a beautiful medieval walled city and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Tonight, we include a very special dinner at Count Dracula's restaurant, in the house where Vlad Tepes was born. Overnight stay. DAY 6. SIGHISOARA – BIERTAN – SIBIU – HUNEDOARA – TIMISOARA. In Transylvania, there are numerous fortified churches in areas once inhabited by people of German origin. Some of these churches have been declared World Heritage Sites, and we will visit one of them: Biertan (entrance included). Afterward, we continue to Sibiu, an important economic and cultural center and former capital of Transylvania. Its streets are full of life, with squares and alleyways. Time for a stroll and lunch. In the afternoon, we visit the impressive Hunedoara Castle (entrance included), considered the most beautiful in Romania. We continue to Timisoara, with time for a walk through its elegant central squares. Overnight stay. DAY 7. TIMISOARA – BELGRADE We depart for Serbia, crossing the border. After a journey of just under 3 hours, we arrive in BELGRADE. We include a panoramic tour of this vibrant capital city, located on the banks of the Danube River at its confluence with the Sava. We will admire its bustling city center, the Parliament building, and walk through the Kalemegdan Fortress. We also include a visit to the Museum of Yugoslavia, home to Tito's Mausoleum. Free afternoon. Overnight stay. DAY 8. BELGRADE – FRUSKA GORA – SREMSKI KARLOVCI – NOVI SAD After breakfast, we depart for FRUSKA GORA, a natural park known for its landscapes and beautiful Orthodox monasteries founded from the 12th century onwards. We will visit the monasteries of Krusedol and Novo Hopovo, founded by the despotic Brankovic family. We will continue to Sremski Karlovci, one of the oldest cities in the country, already mentioned in 1308 as Karom, whose neoclassical historic center is beautifully preserved. We will visit the Beekeeping Museum and the Ivanovic family winery (lunch and wine tasting included). We then continue to Novi Sad, Serbia's second-largest city, situated on the banks of the Danube River. Novi Sad boasts diverse architecture that reflects its rich history. A highlight is the Petrovaradin Fortress, considered one of the largest in Europe and a prime example of 18th-century European military architecture ("The Gibraltar of the Danube"). Overnight stay. DAY 9. NOVI SAD – VIMINACIUM – MANASIJA – NIS We travel south through Serbia. We visit the archaeological site of the Roman city of Viminacium (entrance included), which, at its peak, had 40,000 inhabitants. We will admire the Roman roads, the remains of temples, streets, squares, amphitheaters, palaces, hippodromes, and Roman baths. We continue to the Manasija Monastery, one of the most important monuments of medieval Serbian culture. Its church, surrounded by high walls, still preserves its 15th-century frescoes. We proceed to Niš, the third largest city in Serbia, with an important past during the Roman Empire; Constantine the Great was born here. Overnight stay. DAY 10. Nš – ZICA – STUDENICA – KRALJEVO We visit the early 13th-century Orthodox monastery of Zica, also known as the Coronation Monastery, as seven Serbian kings have been crowned here. We continue to Studenica Monastery, the largest monastery in Serbia, nestled in the mountains. Its magnificent group of wooden and plaster buildings was founded in 1190, and its interior walls are decorated with Byzantine frescoes. Lunch is included. We then proceed to Kraljevo, a charming city in central Serbia, surrounded by mountains and rich in history and culture. Kraljevo is recognizable by its beautiful town square, dominated by a monument to Serbian warriors, and its medieval fortress. Overnight stay. DAY 11. KRALJEVO – RAVANICA – OPLENAC – BELGRADE. Departure for Ravanica, with its monastery and its grand five-domed church. Afterwards, we continue with a visit to the village of Topola to learn about its fascinating history. In Oplenac, on its hill, we will see the Church of St. George, founded by King Peter I of Yugoslavia. It served as the mausoleum of the Royal House of Serbia and later of Yugoslavia until 1945. Return to Belgrade. Overnight stay. DAY 12. BELGRADE – CITY OF ORIGIN Breakfast and free time in Belgrade until your transfer to the airport.
