DAY 1. DEPARTURE CITY – FRANKFURT


Welcome to Germany. Transfer to the hotel and free time. In the afternoon, you will receive information regarding the start of your tour through the information signs located at the hotel reception.

DAY 2. FRANKFURT – RHINE CRUISE – COLOGNE – DORTMUND


Today we explore the Rhine Valley and the Moselle Valley, two rivers steeped in history and lined with charming villages. We include a short Rhine Cruise between the towns of Rüdesheim and St. Goar, undoubtedly the most picturesque stretch of the Rhine. Afterwards, we continue along the Moselle River. There will be time for lunch in Cochem, a very picturesque town on the banks of the Rhine, dominated by its imposing castle whose origins date back more than a thousand years.


Afterwards, we travel to Cologne. Time to visit its impressive Gothic cathedral, which, at 154 metres high, was the tallest building in the world until the end of the 19th century. You may also enjoy a walk along the Rhine River and through the lively city centre.

DAY 3. DORTMUND – FAIRY TALE ROUTE – HANNOVER


Today will be a magical day, recalling many of the stories and films of our childhood as we travel through villages that inspired the Brothers Grimm and now form what is known as the Fairy Tale Route. We head to Trendelburg, a picturesque walled village dominated by its great medieval castle. We visit the castle, including Rapunzel’s Tower (entrance included).


We continue along small roads through forests, imagining the world of Hansel and Gretel. Time for lunch in Höxter, a lively small town where Corvey Abbey is located (entrance included), a former 9th-century monastery and UNESCO World Heritage Site. In Polle, we visit the ruins of Cinderella’s Castle (entrance included). We then continue to Hamelin, famous for the tale of the Pied Piper. After enjoying the city and following the traces of the mice, we proceed to Hannover, with time for a stroll by the old town hall.

DAY 4. HANNOVER – GOSLAR – GÖTTINGEN – BAD SOODEN – EISENACH


After breakfast, we travel to the Rammelsberg Mines, a silver mining centre near Goslar that was worked from the Middle Ages and has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Entrance to the museum is included, where you will learn about the history of this mine.


Afterwards, we continue to Goslar, with its magnificent medieval old town, also declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It stands out for its half-timbered houses, cobbled streets, and majestic historic buildings.


We then continue to Göttingen, an important university and scientific centre where the Brothers Grimm once lived. There will be time for lunch and a walk through its historic centre. In the afternoon, we travel into Thuringia, stopping in Bad Sooden, a small and picturesque spa town nestled among the mountains and beautifully preserved. We then continue to Eisenach, a city with a magnificent Baroque and Renaissance historic centre, home to Bach House, dedicated to the composer, and Luther House. Dinner included.

DAY 5. EISENACH – GOTHA – ERFURT – LEIPZIG


We begin the day by visiting the impressive Wartburg Castle (entrance included), a UNESCO World Heritage Site where Martin Luther translated the New Testament into German. Afterwards, back in Eisenach, there will be free time for lunch and a walk through the city, where music lovers may wish to visit Bach House, or alternatively the Automobile Museum, where many vintage vehicles are on display.


We continue to Gotha, where we can admire its immense Baroque palace (exterior visit) and its classic old town. In Erfurt, the capital of Thuringia, we explore a lively city with its great cathedral and old quarter, including a beautiful medieval bridge that has been inhabited for more than 500 years.


By the end of the afternoon, we arrive in Leipzig, one of Germany’s richest cities in terms of history and culture, where composers such as Bach and Wagner lived. It was a major industrial centre during the GDR era and today has a population of over half a million inhabitants.

DAY 6. LEIPZIG – DRESDEN – BAMBERG – NUREMBERG


Leaving Leipzig, we will make a stop at the Monument to the Battle of the Nations, inaugurated in 1913 and standing 91 metres high, commemorating one of the most famous battles of the Napoleonic Wars. We then continue to Dresden, the capital of Saxony, renowned for its Baroque and Renaissance architecture, elegant palaces, and beautiful promenades along the River Elbe.


We continue into Bavaria and arrive in Bamberg, a truly beautiful and lively city. Be sure to take a walk through Little Venice, one of its most charming quarters. We then continue to Nuremberg, the second-largest city in Bavaria, a city with a long and fascinating history, where we suggest visiting the site where Hitler’s Coliseum once stood.

DAY 7. NUREMBERG – WELTENBURG ABBEY – DACHAU – MUNICH


Today’s stage brings some remarkable highlights. From Kelheim, we board for a short cruise through the Danube Valley, in the area of the Danube Gorge. We arrive at Weltenburg Abbey, a beautiful Benedictine monastery founded in 1040.


We then continue to Dachau, where we visit the museum dedicated to the former Nazi concentration camp. Time for lunch. In the early afternoon, we arrive in Munich, where we visit the impressive BMW Welt, a striking and ultra-modern multifunctional exhibition centre belonging to the prestigious German car brand BMW. We will also see the park where the Olympiastadion is located, a site of great architectural beauty that hosted the famous 1972 Olympic Games. Afterwards, free time in the historic city centre.


You may stroll through Marienplatz, the heart of Munich, visit the picturesque open-air market of Viktualienmarkt, relax in the Englischer Garten, or enjoy a beer in one of the city’s traditional beer halls.

DAY 8. MUNICH – FÜSSEN – ROTHENBURG – FRANKFURT


Amid high Alpine peaks and beautiful scenery, we arrive in Füssen, home to Neuschwanstein Castle. We will go up by bus to Mary’s Bridge to enjoy the fantastic landscape of ravines and mountains visible from this viewpoint. From here, you may return on foot or by horse-drawn carriage (not included).


Afterwards, following the Romantic Road, we travel to Rothenburg, a delightful walled town where entrance to the beautiful Christmas Museum is included. We then continue to Frankfurt, the financial capital of Germany.

DAY 9. FRANKFURT – DEPARTURE CITY


After breakfast, transfer to the airport to return to your departure city, provided this service has been arranged by us.

  • You can make stopovers of between 1 and 7 nights, depending on the itinerary, in different cities before rejoining the tour.
